If you hear screeching, they you are feeding to fast - or too slow. Try slowing the feedrate first. If that doesn't work, then increase the feed rate a bit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speeds_and_feeds

Missing from the Wikipedia table is Wood. The Cutting Speed for a soft wood, such as pine, is 1000 feet per minute.

There is a recommended speeds and feeds calculator at

http://www.custompartnet.com/calculator ... d-and-feed

The calculator needs Feed per Tooth. We were told to use the following values:

Aluminum: 1/100th the bit diameter
Wood: 1/50th the bit diameter
Foam: 0.1

Plunge speed should be about 1/3 the feed rate.

I have now recovered all the articles from the previous version of this BB. We lost the user base and the author of each article; sorry 'bout that.

We are now on a current version of the phpBB and MySQL. I learned a few things from this. Please accept my apologies.

Jim

I had to install the FTDI VCP driver 2.2.18 AND reboot my Mac to get it to work. I'm running 10.9.5 and installed the latest version of the driver, which said it was for several OS X versions, including 10.8. Until I did this the IDE would hang trying to download to the Ardweeny.

This is a good kit for a cheep Arduino. You need an FTDI board to program it, but they are cheap.

The Ardweeny calls for having the header pins extend just to the sides of the chip and then using the chip's pins to plug into your breadboard. (Check out the Ardweeny instructions to see what I mean.) Next time I'll do that differently.

Next time I will buy my own extra long header pins instead of using the ones in the kit. Then I will cut the legs off the Arduino chip and snuggle it up way inside those header pins. Then I can use the actual header pins to insert into my breadboard.

To use this you only need the Javascript code to run in your browser. The current version of my code will read the Spark Cloud to get a list of variables and methods that your core firmware exports. It also monitors your core for any Publish events it sends.

You can run this from my web site, or go there and download all the code so you can modify it and run it anywhere you want. The download includes a simple sample firmware app to run on your core. But the web site also works with the factory installed firmware.

You spray this product onto a metal or glass surface, laser it, then wash off the part that was not hit with the laser. I saw this used at TSMP on metal and the result was very good. The woman using it recommended it.

I got a 6oz bottle of the spray on Thermark Laser Marking Material LMM14 Black from the manufacturers web site thermark.com for $62 plus $11 shipping UPS. Not cheap.

I made a mold form from old cardboard, lined with a plastic supermarket bag. Not sure that I needed the bag; the alginate is very thick. One pound was enough to cover my hand to just beyond my wrist.

It turned gray/white in about 3 minutes and I was able to pull my hand free. All hair remained on my arm. Filled the form with plaster of Paris and the resulting cast was incredibly detailed.

$15 on Amazon prime.
